The Earthshot Prize 2022

44.01 turns planet-warming CO2 into rock using the natural power of mineralisation in peridotite formations, providing a permanent and secure form of CO2 storage. To achieve our net zero targets, we need to both reduce emissions and remove existing CO2 in the atmosphere in a way that ensures the CO2 can never be re-released. 

Their technology immobilises CO2 captured from the air and from hard-to-decarbonise industries as inert carbonate rocks which are thermodynamically stable for millennia. They can fix our climate by providing a final and secure destination for gigatons of CO2.
